Endebess constituency Member of Parliament Robert Pukose has expressed concerns about night campaigns convened by some of his opponents.

Speaking at Endebess after commissioning a youth innovation hub, Pukose said such campaigns are against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission's electoral code of conduct.

“I want to condemn those who do campaigns beyond IEBC’s stipulated times, why should you do campaigns until late in the night. Are you practising witchcraft?” Pukose posed.

Stop night campaigns

Pukose called on security agencies to investigate the claims and urged IEBC to disqualify the culprits for violating the code of conduct.

“We are asking the provincial administration led by the DCC and security agencies in Endebess to take necessary action against all the candidates who are not satisfied with the twelve hours given to them by IEBC” he appealed.

The second-term lawmaker said if the campaigns are allowed to continue, they are likely to threaten security and breed tribalism and hatred amongst communities living in the cosmopolitan constituency.

"If you want to sell your agenda, talk to the people in public places. Doing night campaigns is a recipe for chaos before elections" Pukose warned.

Pukose, one of Deputy President William Ruto’s lieutenants, asked the electorates to vote for leaders with a clear manifesto in the August 9 general elections.

Endebess Deputy County Commissioner, Rashid Kwanya said the security agencies are investigating the complaints and promised that law and order will be maintained before, during and even after elections.

“We have learnt of this complaint through area MP; we shall investigate and take necessary actions against all the candidates who will be found culpable of breaching elections code of conduct” Kwanya said.

The administrator urged the locals not to accept being divided on the basis of ethnic inclination and political party affiliations.

“Elections will come and go; you should accept people who want to divide you for their own political gains. Your neighbour will remain your neighbour even after August 9” he said.
