Kenya Kwanza's presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua has now told off former Kiambu governor William Kabogo over claims that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party was in support of its favourite candidate for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat.

Speaking to a local Tv station, the Mathira Member of Parliament (MP) dismissed the allegations stating that their party advocated for voters to freely vote for their preferred aspirant.

“UDA is an autonomous party. Naturally, we campaign for our candidates. But when we go to a place like Kiambu where there is a fair contest among the Kenya Kwanza candidates, we allow the people to make their own decision,” he stated.

Gachagua further addressed dictatorship claims by Kabogo and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria. In his defence, Gachagua stated that Kabogo's complaints arose from the competition for governorship in the said county, a position he is not interested in.

“The discomfort expressed by Kabogo has everything to do with Kiambu where he, Kuria and Senator Kimani Wamatangi want to be governor. I cannot help any of them because I am not a Kiambu voter; I'm a father figure to the three.” he lamented.

Speaking on Kuria's claims, Gachagua claimed that the two were very close friends.

“Kuria and I are friends. He visits my home frequently. We share the same ideals and he has never expressed any misgivings about my leadership. I don’t want to dwell on Kabogo as that is a Kiambu matter, I am a national leader,” he stated.

While defending that he was focusing on presidential campaigns, Gachagua reiterated that he has no favourite candidate in Kiambu further urging the Tujibebe Wakenya party leader to 'take his battles where they belong'.

Kabogo airs grievances regarding Gachagua

Gachagua's sentiments come after Kuria and Kabogo stated that the UDA party was engaged in a deliberate move to discriminate against other parties.

The former Kiambu governor also lamented that small parties from Mount Kenya region were being sidelined in Kenya Kwanza campaigns.

“As small parties in Mount Kenya Region, we are not included in the planning of campaign activities. The campaigns also drum support for UDA only. Even the Deputy President-designate campaigns for UDA, and not Kenya Kwanza coalition,” he stated.

Kabogo further accused Gachagua of dictatorship in the alliance.
