Julius Malombe has secured victory in the Kitui gubernatorial race to recapture the county seat which he lost to the incumbent governor Charity Ngilu in the 2017 general election.

Ngilu bowed out of the Kitui gubernatorial race to focus on the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance national campaigns in a bid to secure a Raila Odinga presidency.

With Ngilu out of the race, Malombe faced off with David Musila for Kitui's top job.

Malombe, who was vying on a Wiper party ticket, garnered a total of 198,004 votes to floor Musila of Jubilee party who managed 117,606 votes.

Wiper Party, which is led by Kalonzo Musyoka, emerged as the dominant political outfit in Kitui after producing the county's top leadership including the Governor, Senator and Women Representative.

Kitui Senator Enock Wambua Kiio was re-elected after securing 191, 317 votes.
