Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko was on Saturday forced to scamper for safety for the fourth time in recent weeks after an individual threw what is suspected to be a tear gas canister during his rally in Suna East constituency.

Ayacko was forced to cut short his speech following the incident, which triggered questions on the source of the canister.

Yesterday, Nyanza Regional Police Commander Karanja Muiruri said the suspect had been identified and that they were pursuing him. “He escaped to the neighbouring Tanzania. But we are pursuing him everywhere as he was not even in his home,’’ said Muiruri.

Police said yesterday, that they have launched a manhunt for the two suspects believed to be behind a series of violent incidents where teargas has been lobbed in rallies recently.

Perceived rivals

The police spoke as Ayacko who is running for Migori governor seat on ODM ticket, blamed his perceived rivals for the attack. “These are dirty machinations and acts of cowardice from our opponents who must not be allowed to run away with such heinous plans,’’ Ayacko said. ODM Chairman John Mbadi condemned the incident and asked security apparatus to act swiftly to arrest the suspects.
