Former Kesses MP Swarup Mishra now says the ongoing chatter on social media claiming he had withdrawn scholarships for 300 students in the constituency after failing to defend his seat is not true.

Mishra, who was vying on an independent ticket, lost the seat to Julias Ruto who was vying on a UDA ticket and was serving as an official with Uasin Gishu County.

Mishra has been a hot topic online and especially on Twitter after the claims, forcing him to address the matter.

Taking to Facebook, the lawmaker dismissed the allegations as "fake news".

"Dear Kenyans, for the past one week, social media has been awash with FAKE NEWS that I have withdrawn scholarship for 300 Students from Kesses constituency. I urge you all to disregard the rumours, FAKE NEWS and sophisticated disinformation campaigns being peddled across-board," part of his statement read.

Adding: "..the program is still on course and by the Great Grace of God we shall continue absorbing and supporting more students."

Mishra is a medical doctor by training and the founder and sitting chairman of the Mediheal group of hospitals.
