In a programme seen by People Daily Digital, the DP is expected in Kirinyaga, Nyeri and Murang'a counties in a tour meant to solidify his support ahead of the polls slated for August 9.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party leader will begin his campaigns in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, and then proceed to Kianyaga and Kieni (Nyeri) at noon.

In the afternoon, Ruto will address rallies in Endarasha and Wamagana in Nyeri county before culminating his tour with addresses in Kigumo and Gatura in the neighbouring Muranga county.

Ruto has been to the Mt Kenya region severally with his recent rallies covering Kiambu, Nyandarua and Muranga counties.

The DP tour comes a day after he appeared for the presidential debate solo, where he took advantage of the absence of Azimio One Kenya coalition candidate Raila Odinga to sell the Kenya kwanza agenda to the nation.

Ruto said his administration will prioritise policies meant to reduce the cost of living and revive the economy by empowering the common mwananchi.

Debate moderators said they received written communication from Raila informing them of his decision not to attend.

Raila on Sunday, July 24, 2022, announced that he will not be attending the presidential debate.

In a statement released by the Spokesperson of his Presidential Campaign Secretariat Prof Makau Mutua, Raila stated that a traditional debate structure with opposing candidates was a bad idea this year.

"In lieu of a traditional debate, we plan to take part in a televised town hall at Jericho social hall in Nairobi Eastlands with ordinary Kenyans to offer our solutions to challenges facing the country and common people," the statement read.
