The opening of polling centres in Murang'a for the United Democratic Alliance's nominations was delayed for a while following heavy rains that pounded the area, but after that, there has been low voter turnout at various polling stations.

A spot check in several centres has revealed a low turnout as only a few people are being seen trickling into these centres.

United Democratic Alliance is holding nominations for Member of Parliament positions in three constituencies; Kangema, Mathioya and Kigumo since candidates in the other four areas; Gatanga, Kiharu, Kandara and Maragua have no opponents.

In Mathioya, Stephen Macharia, Anthony Maina, Gachau Mbuthia and Edwin Kimani will be battling out for the party's ticket to vie for the parliamentary seat.

In Kangema, Peter Kihungi will be competing with Joseph Mukuha and in Kigumo, Joseph Monyoro will be competing with Erick Kamande.

For the Women Representative position, three candidates, Betty Maina, Lucy Ngugi and Rebecca Waruguru will also be scrambling to get majority votes to win the party ticket.
