Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici has come out to explain why she only sent birthday wishes to ODM leader Raila Odinga, and not Deputy President William Ruto whose birthday was celebrated on December 21, 2021.

In an interview with the Standard, Ngirici said she did not have enough internet bundles to convey her birthday wishes to the DP.

"I wished the ODM leader a happy birthday, but snubbed Ruto when he turned 55 years old because it’s simple, I did not have internet connection on December 21," Ngirici said.

Ngirici further revealed how she was body-shamed by some members of the UDA party in a WhatsApp group while DP Ruto did nothing to protect her from the attacks.

“Sometimes back, in our UDA WhatsApp group, a section of the MPs body-shamed and insulted me, but the deputy president remained silent, though he read the messages,” Ngirici said.

The Woman Representative has since decamped from the DP's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and is likely to run for Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat on an independent ticket.

“I can’t run for an elective seat on a UDA ticket, even if the ticket was given to me on a silver platter, and I can assure you there are leaders from North Eastern and Mount Kenya who have informed me that they’re just waiting for the appropriate time to ditch the party,” Ngirici claimed.
