If Mudavadi was comfortable with my attendance at Ruto’s rally, who are you to question me? Malala blasts ANC secretary-general
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has slammed Amani National Congress Secretary-General Simon Kamau for issuing a statement distancing the ANC outfit from his Saturday attendance of Deputy President William Ruto's rally in Eldoret's Sports Club.
This comes after Kamau issued a statement averring that ANC nor its party leader Musalia Mudavadi had not dispatched any of its members to represent them at the event.
In furtherance, the party stated that official party positions only come from its Party Leader or the Secretary-General.
"The ANC party would like to disassociate itself with the activities taking place at Eldoret Sports Club Grounds where UDA Party is holding its rally. ANC has not sent anybody to represent either the party or the Party Leader in the said function," the statement read.
Reacting to the statement, Malala said that the secretary-general was not in a position to question his appearance at Ruto's rally. He claimed that it is only Mudavadi, ANC party leader who has the power to question his political decisions and not Kamau.
"In the current political context, I am only answerable to two entities, one my party leader (Musalia Mudavadi) and the people of Kakamega. If my party leader is not offended by my presence in Eldoret, nobody else should be offended. Nobody else should mourn more than the bereaved," Malala said.
The outspoken senator further stated that his presence at the Saturday rally was not to represent the ANC party as alluded by the Sec-Gen.
He explained that he was at the rally to seek friendship with DP Ruto and his allies as the ANC party prepares to lodge a presidential candidate in the August elections.
"We are in a political season of looking for friends. And therefore people should not be offended when they see members of ANC going around this country looking for friends," the senator said.
I will continue championing the interest of Musalia Mudavadi moving towards the 2022 General Elections to ensure that he is in the right team that is going to form the government. Nobody should therefore castigate our efforts to try and reach out for more friends," he added.
The first-time lawmaker further revealed that he will continue "seeking more friends" for the ANC party as it is his role as "an elected leader to propel the party towards forming the next government."
"As an elected leader, my role is to propel our members towards forming the next government. Anyway, our new SG is still under orientation," he said.
