Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga has urged women to come out in large numbers and join politics regardless of their economic status.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Wanga said that joining politics is not about money but belief within one's self. She argued that an aspiring politician only needs to have good ideologies.

"Believe in yourself and don't think it's about money. Jump in, if you believe in it follow it, money will follow you there. We didn't start by owning anything, from my experience, I started with nothing.

If your ideas are good, they will convince people and people will come on board, so, don't be afraid that you don't have the money to join because that is what is putting off many politicians," she said.

The Woman Rep, however, noted that though getting into politics is easy, the political ground is favouring men. According to her, the challenges women face in the political arena are more than those experienced by men.

"The things women have to deal with; men don't have to deal with. For example, a man doesn't have to leave his ancestral home to go to his marital home, unlike women who go through that and when they stand for an elective seat, people start to question their homes of origin. So these are some of the issues that put women at a disadvantage," she explained.
