Karua pledges judicial reforms to tackle graft

Azimio-One Kenya presidential running mate Martha Karua yesterday pledged to root out graft if the coalition is elected on August 9.

Speaking in Meru county where she led Azimio campaigns, Karua asked Mt Kenya residents to throw their weight behind Raila Odinga’s candidature.

“Do not be cheated by the other camp. They claim Mt Kenya region is their bedroom but we are telling them to forget it because Kenyans want clean leaders who have clean track records and are ready to safeguard the country’s economy and not to steal from them,” Karua said.

The Narc-Kenya leader said she was ready to work with Raila, adding that they share their roots in the battle for the Second Liberation.

 “Raila did not go wrong by settling on me. He knows I am fearless, tough and a serious person on duties bestowed on me. We have fought hard together for reforms and democracy while in government and outside the government to liberate this country and safeguard the rights of Kenyans. Raila is the best option for this country,” she noted.

 Speaking in Timau, Makutano, Muthara and Laare and Mailli Tatu in Igembe central, Karua noted that she will not be shaken and intimidated while executing her duties and fighting corruption.

She promised to execute her mandate  diligently to ensure all the development pledges for Mt Kenya and the country as whole will be fully implemented.

  She also promised to institute the much-needed reforms in the Judiciary that will fight graft, saying corruption is the greatest enemy of development.

 “Since Raila has chosen me to lead the Justice and Constitutional Affairs docket, I will ensure the rights of Kenyans are safeguarded and no money and resources are stolen again from the public,” she held.

Karua was accompanied by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.

 Munya can also assure that the pledges made on Agriculture, education, water and other sectors will be fully implemented once we form the next government. It will be our harvest time as Mt Kenya people,” she said. She at the same time trashed Kenya Kwanza Alliance, accusing Deputy President William Ruto of not respecting the President.

 “How can you vote for a person who does not respect the President and other leaders? This is the time to scrutinise both camps so be keen before you cast your vote,” she added.

Clean history

 Addressing the crowd, Munya lauded Rail as the only presidential candidate, who has a clean history of detesting corruption.

 “With Raila and Karua leading this country we are safe and assured of steady economical transformation after President Uhuru Kenyatta retires from office, “ added Munya.

 The CS also supported Karua for the slot that he was also nominated adding he, as no ill-felling adding Karua is equal to the task.

“It is well with me despite the fact that we went to hunt for the elephant and instead we got the buffalo but is it okay because all of them is still meat so let support Raila and Karua for a better leadership,” he added.

Also present were Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary Margaret Kobia, MPs Kanini Kega  (Kieni), Mpuru Aburi (East African Legislative Assembly), Jeremiah Kioni (Ndaragwa) and Sabina Chege (Murang’a Woman Rep) also asked them to support a governor of their choice.

“We are asking you to support Raila for presidency but vote governor of your choice,” Karua said.

 Munya also reiterated that it not automatic that he support Kiraitu even if he is in Azimio urging the locals the vote wisely for a leader who will bring changes in the county.
