A section of Meru legislators have called on President William Ruto to sack Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria over his recent remarks regarding the impeachment of Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

Six MPs under the Meru Caucus Group claimed Kuria’s behaviour is unacceptable as he is meddling in the affairs of Meru people yet he is not a resident of that region.

Addressing a conference yesterday, the MPs who included Rindikiri Mugambi (Buuri), Mpuru Aburu (Tigania East), Rahim Dawood (North Imenti), John Paul Mwirigi (Igembe South), Julias Taitumu (Igembe North) said Kuria has failed to work for Kenyans as he is busy politicking which is against the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

“We are telling his Excellency the President that time has come for him to relieve Kuria of his job as a Cabinet Secretary in order to allow him to go back and play politics,” he said.

Rindikiri further claimed that they are aware that two weeks ago Kuria was behind a meeting that was planned and held in Makutano where East African legislative Assembly MP Kanini Kega was heckled.

He said: “Mr Kuria, respect Meru people, respect Meru leaders. We know that because of your reckless speech you will soon be out of that ministry just like it happened before.”

According to him, residents of Meru did not Impeach Mwangaza because of any influence from certain quarters but did so because they did not believe in his leadership style.

The MPs sentiments came hours after Kuria came to the defence of Mwangaza, terming her impeachment by the Members of the County Assembly as witch-hunt.

Kuria said through his X account that the individuals fighting the governor were driven by greed for power.  “This is an evil scheme by someone who thinks that the only way to be Mt Kenya Kingpin is to bring down other leaders not to solve the problems of our people who are getting desperate by the day,” he stated.

Similar sentiments were shared by Council of Governors chairperson Anne Waiguru who expressed her solidarity with the beleaguered Meru county boss, calling on her to remain steadfast ahead of the Senate hearing.
