A massive campaign against the re-election of Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has been launched, with three local MPs terming him a spent force and a failure during the years he has been in office.

The three — Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango), Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango) and Ben Momanyi (Borabu) — told residents that extending the leadership of Nyaribo spells doom to the county.

Speaking at Suguta Catholic Church in North Mugirango constituency, the leaders listed the alleged shortcomings of the governor as corruption, nepotism, clannism and embezzlement of funds. They said Nyamira lags behind in development compared with other counties.

Laughing stock

MP Nyamoko, from Nyaribo’s home village, said: “When you compare Nyamira with other counties, we are the laughing stock. There is completely nothing to show for devolution, unlike in other counties.”

He urged voters to elect Borabu MP Ben Momanyi as governor.

Kemosi tore into the leadership of Nyaribo, which he termed rotten and divisive. “Nyamira is underdeveloped because of electing the wrong governor with no sense of development”.

“Nyaribo and the late governor John Nyagarama came into office in 2013. They should both be held responsible for the underdevelopment of the country and mismanagement. Let  Nyaribo not cheat the electorate that he has been in office for a short time”.

Momanyi decried the pathetic state of roads in the county, lack of drugs in government health facilities and poor lighting of towns and market centres. “It’ll be uneconomical to re-elect Nyaribo after he has demonstrated he is unproductive, “ he said.

Members of the County Assembly, led by Charles Barongo, said that for Nyamira County to develop and prosper, Nyaribo and his deputy, Dr James Gesami, must be ousted.
