ODM requests for police security during party primaries
Orange Democratic Movement has written to Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to provide security to the party when they conduct their primaries from Monday next week through April 21.
The party’s National Elections Board (NEB) said the month-long exercise will take place in one or two counties at a time and it will be necessary for the law enforcers to maintain peace, law and order.
In their letter, the board’s Chairperson Catherine Mumma requested for security during the primaries, “to enable the exercise be conducted peacefully.”
“The ODM National Elections Board intends to conduct party primaries March 21-April 21. This is to request you to provide the party with the necessary security to enable the primaries be conducted in a peaceful atmosphere,” said Mumma (pictured) in her letter.
The Orange party has also requested Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha to permit schools to allow the party to conduct its primaries in a conducive environment.
Mumma said that some of the electoral agency gazetted polling stations are largely public schools which they intend to use for the exercise.
“This is to request your office to authorize schools to permit the National Elections Board officials and ODM members to access the schools for the purposes of conducting and participating in the party primaries,” said Mumma.
