ODM leader Raila Odinga has on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, left the country for the United Arab Emirates to attend a high-level conference on African infrastructure.

The former Prime Minister serves as the Africa Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development, but it is however not clear in what capacity he will be attending the conference. Nevertheless, he is an official at the level, so he will reportedly attend the conference in his official capacity.

Raila was appointed to the position in 2018 by the chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat.

In his role, the opposition chief is tasked with taking charge of the continental body’s drive to expedite the integration of the continent through infrastructure, in order to promote economic growth and sustainable development.

Raila's mandates also include mobilising political support from Member States and the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and facilitating greater ownership by all concerned stakeholders on the continent.
