Ruto blames ex-Mungiki boss for heckling
Supporters of ex-Mungiki leader Maina Njenga heckled Deputy President William Ruto at his first stopover in his campaign in Laikipia County yesterday.
The supporters carrying Njenga’s posters appeared at Ol Jabet town, Laikipia West, where Ruto addressed his first rally and chanted slogans in favour of the ex-Mungiki leader.
Ruto who took his United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) campaign to the constituency reprimanded the youths and asked Maina to hold his own rally.
“Stop the nonsense. We will not allow you to come and heckle us in our rally. This is my rally. He should organise his own meeting,” he said.
The ex-Mungiki leader is vying for the Laikipia senator seat on a Kanu ticket.
UDA uniform
Ruto was accompanied by MPs Alice Wahome (Kandara), Patrick Mariru (Laikipia West) and Laikipia Senator John Kinyua and a host of candidates who are vying for various seats on UDA ticket.
They included former governor Joshua Irungu and former Laikipia West MP Wachira Karani.
Ruto urged the residents of Laikipia West constituency to vote for candidates vying on UDA ticket in next year’s election.
“Will you vote for UDA governor, UDA MP, UDA Woman Rep and UDA MCAs?” he asked the crowd that answered in the affirmative.
The DP pledged to carry on with projects started by the Jubilee government in the area if elected president next year.
“I promise that next year, God willing, we will implement all projects that the Jubilee government had launched in this area including continuation of electricity connections and roads and also the in Big Four agenda,” he said.
Ruto is today expected to take his campaigns to Kisii County.
