‘Mbona unanifanyia maandamano?’ Ruto reminds Raila how he campaigned for him in 2007
President William Ruto has asked Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance leader Raila Odinga to call off planned demonstrations and support him instead.
Speaking in Uriri, Migori county on Saturday, March 25, 2023, during his tour of Nyanza, Ruto said he supported Raila's presidential bid in 2007 and as such the Azimio leader owes him a political debt.
The president wondered when Raila would replay the political debt he owes him.
"Mimi nataka niulize bwana Agwambo mimi nilikusupport nkakufanyia campaign, mimi nimewai kukupigia kura, mimi nimewai kukushikilia. Sasa bwana Agwambo kwa ile tu heshima ya binadamu wewe utanipigia kura lini? Wewe utanifanyia campaign lini? " Ruto said.
Ruto further asked Raila why he was calling for demos against his government, adding the Azimio leader should vote for him as gratitude for the support he gave him in the 2007 presidential election.
"Mbona unanifanyia maandamano? Si ata yeye anipigie kura siku moja jamani? Mi naona miaka yake imesongasonga sana. Sasa miaka imesonga na hajanipigia kura sasa atanipigia kura lini? Arudishe mkono ama namna gani? Kwani kurudisha mkono iko makosa? Agwambo lazima arudishe mkono?"
Ruto further lamented that he suffered a lot for supporting Raila, adding that he was indicted at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands because of the Azimio leader.
"Mimi niliangaika sana ju yake. So mimi namwambia bwana Agwambo nikiwa hapa Nyanza my friend, kuwa mugwana. Mimi nilikusupport, nimekupigia kura mbaka nimepelekwa Hague sasa wewe nafasi yako rudisha mkono," he said.
Ruto stressed that Raila should prepare to vote for him in the 2027 presidential election instead of organizing demos against his government.
"Wewe utanipigia kura lini my friend? Badala ya wewe kunipangia maandamano wewe jipange unipigie kura 2027 ndo mambo ikue even ama namna gani?"
