Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC) the minority party in the Vihiga County Assembly pulled a surprise to win the county deputy speaker position.

Eric Odei of Gisambai ward in Hamisi sub-county beat ODM’s Manaoh Mboku (Tambua) in the first round. Odei beat the veteran Mboku by garnering 20 votes against 15 votes.

Mboku was forced to concede defeat in Round One after he told speaker Chris Omulele he was not ready to proceed to Round Two. Odei thanked Vihiga county MCAs for electing him as their deputy speaker despite coming from the minority wing.

He said he is ready to deliver in his duties as the deputy speaker and help his immediate boss Omulele perform better. Odei said he served in the count assembly’s speaker’s panel and thus is up to the task to deliver.

Former Luanda MP Omulele who was fronted by Azimio team was elected Speaker after defeating Hillary Adolwa after garnering 22 votes against 14 votes. Omulele contested for Luanda parliamentary seat but was defeated by Dickson Maungu of DAP-K.
