Wiper clears Sonko to vie for Mombasa governor seat
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is set to vie for Mombasa governor seat on Wiper ticket.
In a list presented to IEBC seen by People Daily Digital, Sonko is among six Wiper governor aspirants to vie in Kitui, Machakos and Mombasa counties.
In a phone call, Wiper Secretary General Shakila Abdallah confirmed Sonko could have been cleared to run for the governor's seat.
Sonko recently ditched Jubilee Party for Wiper.
“Please accept this letter as my formal notice of resignation as a member of Jubilee Party effective March 10, 2022.
"This is in the exercise of my rights to belong to a political party of my choice as enshrined under the Constitution of Kenya,” his letter to Jubilee party read in part.
Sonko will battle it out with Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo, who is also seeking the Wiper ticket for the seat.
