Assembly vets three CEC nominees
Nyamira County Assembly had by yesterday vetted three out of the 10 people nominated by Governor Amos Nyaribo for the positions of Executive Committee Members.
However, five of them are yet to be vetted after former CECs moved to court and blocked their vetting, until the matter they had filed challenging their sacking by Nyaribo is heard and determined.
Former Health CEC Douglas Bosire, John Omanwa (Finance and Planning), Benard Osumo (Public Management and Administration, Peter Omwansa (Roads)and Zablon Onchiri (Town Planning and Urban Development) had moved to court to challenge their sacking.
Those who need to wait for the court to make its ruling include Emily Ongaga (Finance and Economic planning), Samwel Maiko (Lands and Housing), Jones Omwenga (Roads), Glady Momany (Education and ICT) and Thomas Nyariki (Public Service and Management).
Majority rejected
Maiko, Momanyi, Omwenga and Peris Mongare were retained from the previous government, and therefore by law cannot be subjected to vetting.
A member of the vetting appointment committee told People Daily that they could reject a good number of the nominees because of age factor.
“The committee was uncomfortable with the nominations, because the governor had ignored the plight of the youth and People Living with Disabilities.
If the appointment committee rejects majority of the nominees who are aged, then Governor Nyaribo could be forced to go back to the drawing board,” the source.
Already, the appointment committee had rejected the deputy governor nominee, Dr James Gesami, which was finally confirmed by the Assembly last week.
This is said to have caused tension and lot of animosity between the Nyaribo and Members of the County Assembly.
