Carpenter in Chief Justice’s race inches closer to his dream, sworn as advocate

A carpenter who in 2016 applied for the country’s Chief Justice post yesterday edged closer to his dream after he was sworn as an advocate of the High Court.
Paul Andrew Udoto wa s admitted to the bar after 20 years of efforts to become an advocate.
He was among 147 advocates sworn in yesterday, and was specially recognised by Chief Justice David Maraga, who praised him for his determination, reminiscing he was among his competitors for the CJ position.
Speaking after being sworn in, Udoto said he will join private practice, engage in research and venture into teaching practice.
Although he was elated over his achievements, he faulted the system at the Kenya School of Law, saying students are expected to cover units that one should learn within 18 months in nine.
The Githurai-based carpenter said he would not quit his carpentry work. In 2016, Udoto withdrew from the CJ’s race on grounds he did not wish to waste taxpayers money on account of inadequate experience.
