Energy CS Davis Chirchir revokes appointment of 5 EPRA board members

Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir has revoked the appointment of five Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) board members effective immediately.

In a Gazette Notice dated September 7, 2023, Chirchir revoked the appointment of board members including George Mwakule, Moses Murengu Mutuli, Daniel Ndonye, Mercy Muthoni Wambugu and Caroline Gathii.

In their place, Chirchir appointed Anthony Gachau Mbuthia, Diba Daudi, Abraham Kipruto, and Jennipher Nawoi Long’or to sit on the board effective September 8, 2023.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 12 (I) (g) of the Energy Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum appoints—Anthony Gachau Mbuthia, Diba Daudi, Abraham Kipruto, Iennipher Nawoi Long'or, to be members of the Board of Directors of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, for a period of three years, with effect from the 8th September, 2023," the notice read in part.

"The appointment of George Mwakule, Moses Murengu Mutuli, Daniel Ndonye, Mercy Muthoni Wambugu and Caroline Gathii is revoked."

Remaining EPRA board members

The newly appointed board members will join the remaining EPRA board members including Justice (Rtd) Jackton Ojwang, Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria (General Manager), Alex Wachira (PS, Ministry of Energy), Mohamed Liban (Principal Secretary, State Department For Petroleum, Ministry of Energy and Petroleum), Barnabas Ngeno, Albert Mwenda, James Mbugua and Masini Ichwara.
