CS: Covid-19 pandemic claims 30 Kenyans abroad

At least 30 Kenyans living abroad have lost their lives due to coronavirus-related ailments.
The deaths have been reported in the US, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, South Africa and France.
Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo on Tuesday, however, said 193 have contracted the deadly disease in various locations in the world.
Appearing before the Senate ad hoc committee on Covid-19 situation in Kenya via Zoom, Omamo said of the 193 Kenyans, there are 88 active cases and 78 recoveries while four Kenyans are still admitted in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as of May 13.
“This information is not necessarily the reflection of what is going on on the ground because registration for Kenyans abroad is voluntary,” she told the Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja-led committee.
“Going forward, we need to urge Kenyans abroad to register with missions...” she said.
In the meantime, the CS said the government is advancing monetary and non-monetary assistance.
She said the government has evacuated 744 Kenyans who were stranded in various locations of the world.
They include South Sudan (70), Dubai (21), Egypt (18), Pakistan (21), India (233), UAE (135) and China (165).
