Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday gave details on how police sergeant Kipyegon Kenei was killed.

According to preliminary investigations by homicide sleuths, Kenei was murdered by three men who later staged the death to look like suicide.

"We tried all the suicide theories but none of them could explain how he died," said DCI boss George Kinoti

In their investigations, the homicide detectives also unveiled that the cartridge from the firearm that shot Kenei discharged to 'wrong direction', further putting doubts on suicide

The sleuths further demystified suicide based on the likely bullet trajectory.

"If someone shoots himself while standing, you expect the ceiling to be hit by a bullet and blood to split but this was not the case," said Kinoti.

While releasing the preliminary report on Kenei's murder, DCI boss George Kinoti also faulted Kenei's seniors at Harambee House Annex for not immediately inquiring his whereabouts.

The slain officer was a guard at Harambee House Annex, which is Deputy President's office.

"Since he failed to appear at his work place on 19th February as expected, his superiors did not endeavor to find out where he was neither visit his residence," Said Kinoti.

Kinoti also noted that the DP's office wrote a letter to the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai about a security breach in Harambee Annex building. The DP's office authored the letter on February 18.
