One person is feared to have died, and scores sustained injuries as Deputy President William Ruto's church fundraiser tour in Kenol Murang'a was disrupted by rowdy youth groups on Sunday morning.

The victim is said to have been attacked by supporters of one political outfit after a heated exchange of words which later turned physical.

Youths alleged to have been hired from Kiandutu slums in Thika arrived early, lit tyres and blocked sections of road near the AIPCA Kenol church venue where DP Ruto was visiting

Police lobbed teargas to disperse the rowdy youths although some church leaders hosting Ruto alleged that the police were targeting them.

Transport was paralysed along Kenol Murang'a road as sections of the road were blocked making the town inaccessible.

Murang'a Senator Irungu Kangata said he saw chaos on his way to church.

"Passed Kenol on my way to church in Muranga .Saw chaos among the youth ahead of some political visit. We heed HE advise and work for the people first(SIC)," wrote Kang'ata on his Twitter.

Section of leaders have , however, castigated the act saying it was unacceptable for some forces to misuse the youths in such a manner.

Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi (MP) Nyoro who is an ardent supporter of the DP expressed his displeasure over the incident.

He said Ruto, being the Deputy President has the right to go to any part of the country and nobody should stop him.

Ndindi Nyoro said some forces within the Interior Ministry and other MPs in Murang'a planned the chaos

"The chaos witness in the morning are show of how desperate some people are to taint the name of the deputy president" he said.

The DP is being hosted by Kandara Mp Alice Wahome at AIPCA church in Kenol.
