An Eldoret-based human rights activist has claimed his life is in danger following a confrontation with county enforcement officers during a demonstration on Tuesday.

Kimutai Kirui (pictured) of the Centre Against Torture had led parents and students, whose travel to Finland and Australia flopped after the millions of funds meant for their fees were allegedly embezzled by some Uasin Gishu County government senior officers.

Wrong way

According to Kirui, his continued agitation for the parents’ rights has roughed some people the wrong way.

He claimed that after the demonstrations, some county officers who had been trailing him from the County Commissioner’s office nabbed him just next to Sirikwa Hotel and only released him upon the intervention of members of the public.

“They have been trailing me but let me assure them that I will not be cowed in demanding the rights of the affected parents. They have been attempting to kidnap me to silence me,” he said.
