Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today's happenings.

1. Homa Bay International Investment Conference

The Homa Bay International Investment Conference is set to continue into its second day on Wednesday, February 28.

This conference serves as a platform to attract both domestic and international investors, aiming to showcase the county's vast investment potential.

The primary objective of the event is to facilitate the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between the county government and various businesses, as well as foster business-to-business agreements.

Homa Bay County, boasting 80 per cent of Lake Victoria within its borders, anticipates a significant boost in tourism once these investment opportunities are capitalized upon.

President William Ruto made an official visit to Homa Bay to the opening of the county government's second investment conference on Tuesday, February 27.

Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga who is hosting the three-day event.

2. UN conference

The sixth United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) in Nairobi is now on its third day, focusing on how global cooperation can address the interconnected challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

The assembly highlights the importance of unity in tackling these pressing issues.

Scheduled to conclude on March 1, 2024, the five-day conference is taking place at the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

3. Ethiopia PM Abiy Ahmed state visit

Ethiopia's Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, embarked on a state visit to Kenya, arriving in the country on Tuesday, February 27.

This marks his inaugural state visit since President William Ruto assumed office.

Upon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), he was warmly welcomed by his host, President Ruto.

4. Power interruption

Kenya Power announced a scheduled power outage on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, affecting several counties for maintenance and upgrade of power lines. Nairobi, Makueni, Kajiado, Migori, Kiambu, and Kilifi Counties will be impacted.

In Nairobi, Dandora Phase 2, 3, 4 and 5, along with certain areas along Councilor Opondo Rd, Gitari, and Marigu will experience an eight-hour blackout from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Makueni County, including Kiboko Mkt, Masimba Mkt, and Matuu, will also experience interruptions during the same period.

In Kajiado County, Ilpolosat SGR and its surroundings will be without power from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Migori County, particularly Kehancha and Ntimaru, will face a blackout from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. affecting several areas including Migori Airstrip, KEFRI, and Kehancha Town.

Kiambu County will experience power interruptions from 8:00 am. to 5:00 pm, affecting areas like Kahawa Sukari and Wendani.

Similarly, parts of Kilifi County will face a blackout from 8:00 am. to 5:00 pm, affecting areas like Kakanjuni and Vitengeni.
