Former IEBC boss arrested over graft charges

The Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC) sleuths have arrested former Kwale County IEBC boss Said Mtili Kajambo. 

The former Kwale County IEBC Deputy Elections Manager was arrested over "fraudulent acquisition of public property" among other crimes. 

EACC said the IEBC chief committed the offenses in 2017 under Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Act (2003),Public Procurement and  Asset Disposal Act (2015) and the Penal Code (Cap. 63, Laws of Kenya). 

Other offenses which the IEBC official is alleged to have committed include conflict of interest contrary to section 42(3) as read with section 48 of the Anti- Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003,

Fraudulent Practice in Procurement Proceedings Contrary to Section 176(1)(i) as read with section 176(2) of the Public Procurement & Asset Disposal Act, 2015,  Forgery and Uttering false documents contrary to Section 349 and 351 of Penal code. 

"Following investigations and recommendations to charge the officer, on  May 8, 2021, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions approved his prosecution," Kagucia said in a statement. 

He was arrested on Thursday, May 20, 2021, and he is set to be arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court in Mombasa later today May 21, 2021.
