Four charged with causing disturbance at Integrity Centre
Four Nairobi County employees were Wednesday charged with creating disturbance on Tuesday at Integrity Center during Governor Mike Sonko’s interrogation.
Kennedy Odhiambo ( Alcohol Drinks Control and Licensing Board chairman), Richard Bosire ( Communications officer ), John Abok and Joseph Mwangi Karai appearing before senior principal Kennedy Cheruiyot denied two other counts of resisting arrest and taking part in an unlawful assembly.
The court heard that on November 5 at about 11:00 am at EACC headquarters at Integrity Center in Upper Hill area, Nairobi County, the four willfully and unlawfully resisted arrest from police constables Peter Mwangi, Timothy Nyagah, Antony Kasili, Joseph Muturi and Inspector Silas Siota.
Through defense lawyer George Kithi, they accused sought to be released on reasonable bail terms saying that they are not a flight risk since they are employees of Nairobi county government.
Cheruiyot ordered the release of the four on a cash bail of sh 100,000 each.
The case will be mentioned on November 20 for pretrial.
Few minutes after the the four were granted bail, Governor Sonko and East Africa Legislative Assembly MP Simon Mbugua rushed at Milimani law courts to bail them out.
But no sooner had they been released, than they were re-arrested by plain clothes police officers who whisked them to the Kenyatta International Convnetion Centre (KICC) station. It was not clearly known whether they would be preferred with other new charges.
Earlier on Tuesday, anti-riot police teargassed hundreds of Sonko's supporters who were marching towards the EACC headquarters.
Trouble had started at the gate when Sonko tried to enter the EACC offices with his car, despite police requesting him to walk in.
Following this, police then lobbed tear gas canisters when a group of youth tried to force their way into the center, forcing Sonko's team to drive off, only to return and be directed to walk in.
Sonko finally made his way into the center accompanied by county attorney Lydia Kwamboka, county chief of staff Peter Mugo and some CECs.
