Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed claims that there are supremacy battles between him and Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro over the kingship of the Mt Kenya region.

Gachagua said the region is united and all the leaders have a common goal of ensuring they restore the economic glory of the region.

He said the debate is healthy since the older leaders have to nurture the younger ones who will take over the mantle from them.

Speaking in Gatanga Murang’a during the funeral of his sister-in-law Nancy Mwangi, the DP claimed that he does not care about his future political career since he is now focused on helping president William Ruto deliver the promises he gave during the campaigns.

“There are no fights in the region and we are united for a purpose and this debate of who will hold which position at what time is not something to focus on at this time,” the DP stated.

Gachagua said he was bothered by the debate but urged the leaders to shelve it to a later date and focus on serving the people.

He said being the senior leader in the region he will ensure that he champions for the rights of the residents paying special focus on the tea, coffee and dairy sectors

He said he is planning a meeting with the leaders in the region for them to map out how the sectors will be revived and the farmers start enjoying their rightful benefits.

“I always sleep with one eye open because I would not want anything to go wrong and my people suffer,” he remarked.

“Even if I don’t get to a higher position, my contentment will be when my people have money in their pockets and are leading better lives,” he added.

The DP reiterated that he was working with the president to build a stronger nation. He urged the public to be patient with them.

“We promised a lot of things and we will deliver them and we shall not discriminate against anyone whether they voted for us or not.

Gachagua also told off the Azimio brigade over the 14 days ultimatum in gave the government saying they are not going to be intimidated or cowed by the demonstrations.

“Stage your demos if you want to and they go home but we are not going to bow down to your threats,” he said.

Further, he hit back at some leaders who have been insinuating that the relationship between the two has started going sour adding that their unity is very solid.

Murang’a senator Joe Nyutu who started the debate on Nyoro’s presidential debate said he was misquoted and the matter taken out of proportion.

Nyutu said he acknowledges Gachagua as the regional kingpin given that currently he is the senior leader.

“What I meant was that Gachagua to serve 10 years as deputy president and 10 years as the president and Nyoro can take over from there,” Nyutu said.

Other leaders were present among them Murang’a governor Irungu Kang’ata, senator Wahome Matani from Nyeri, and his counterpart from Kiambu Karungu Thang’wa.
