Six victories, three clean sheets, two hat-tricks, two braces, and an avalanche of 29 goals sums up an exciting matchday one of the 2021/2022 FKF Women’s Premier League.

Gaspo Women and Wadadia Ladies FC were the biggest winners of week one after they registered an identical 6-0 victories over Kisumu All Starlets and newbies Bunyore Starlets respectively, while Trans-Nzoia Falcons beat Zetech Sparks 2-0 to complete the list of three teams that won and kept clean sheets.

Three other teams that won were Ulinzi Starlets who humbled newcomers Kangemi Starlets 6-2, reigning champions Thika Queens who beat Kayole Starlets 2-1 with former three-time champions Vihiga Queens cruising past Nakuru City Queens 3-1.

“It’s very important to start the season and title defence with victory and we’re happy we got all the three points.

We have nine signings this season, and they will take a bit of time to gel. Kayole has young and energetic players who defend well.

However, we missed so many chances and I am sure the coach will concentrate on finishing,” Thika Queens chairman Fredrick Chege told People Sport.

“Overall game we were good just that we didn’t bury our chances and we have so much work to do on the set pieces because all goals were either from a corner or foul,” Kisumu All Starlets team manager Beryl Monique Oketch said of their performance.

Oketch expressed delight with how the league started, saying that this is just but a taste of what the league is promising to offer.

“My opinion is the future is female. The league is well and if we get more limelight then our game will attract return on investment on those companies fearing to sponsor us. So, we’re pleading to any corporate business to come and invest in women teams,” added Oketch.

In the six victories, Bertha Omitta (Gaspo) and Carolyne Khaemba (Wadadia) posted the first hat-tricks with Lucy Mukhwana (Ulinzi Starlets) and Christine Nafula grabbing a brace each.

Nineteen other players scored apiece to bring to 29 the total number of goals witnessed at the weekend.
