Officials of internally displaced persons in Trans Nzoia County have asked investigative agencies to bring to book persons who masqueraded as IDPs and received millions of shillings by the government.

They said local administrators and Deputy County Commissioners who assisted in paying fictitious people should be charged and made to pay.

According to a report seen by the People Daily, people posing as IDPs were paid money sent from the National Humanitarian Fund at National Treasury meant for 2007/08 post election violence victims.

The Umbrella groups Secretary Mark Adir said more 18 groups of the IDPs are suffering due to missing out on payments.

Adir questioned lists of names sent back to respective County Commissioners and said the lists should have been given to assistant chiefs and Nyumba Kumi initiative officials who were better placed to handle the matter.

‘’ It was very wrong in the first incidence where payments were done using duplicate names which never matched the identification card numbers. This is why we are asking for explanation from all those who participated in this heinous crime.’’, he said.

He claimed that a list of recipients included   names of government officials whose names can be verified from the records showing  numerous duplications.

‘’ We have not had an explanation for numerous disparities in the payouts where some members received Sh400,000 while others got as low as Sh10,000. This is open bias since you cannot use Ksh. 50,000 or Ksh. 10,000 to buy land for settlement of your family’’, Adir said.

Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Sam Ojwang warned that the government will take action against anyone extorting money from people while promising to have their names included in lists of payments.
