Kiambu Women Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba has conceded defeat in Juja by-election after Jubilee party lost to People's Empowerment Party’s George Koimburi.

Wamuchomba who was in the frontline Jubilee Party team that conducted campaigns for Susan Njeri says as one of the ruling party pillars, she will now take leave to reflect on the way forward.

George Koimburi, the PEP candidate won by a landslide after garnering 12,159 votes against Jubilee's Susan who only managed 5,746 votes.

"Congratulations Koimburi and the team for the spirited campaign and well-deserved win," she said in a statement she posted on her official Facebook account.

In the race, Joseph Gichui, an independent candidate came a distant third garnering 1,356 votes in a race that attracted 11 contenders.

The race which was seen as a duel between Koimburi whose party belongs to Moses Kuria, and Jubilee Party was marred with chaos during the tallying of votes at Mang'u High School after a group of individuals disrupted the process. PEP is also affiliated with Deputy President William Ruto.

The chaos led to suspension of tallying for the entire night before the exercise resumed on Wednesday morning when Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati intervened.

Jubilee Party suffered a loud defeat in the process despite putting up a strong campaign team led by Kiambu Governor James Nyoro and Women representative Gathoni Wamuchomba alongside a number of Kiambu MPs.
