Leaders in Isiolo County have been asked to help expand the Isiolo Town Library which is struggling to accommodate the soaring number of users especially school going children.

Addressing journalists at the library grounds during a back to school open fun day for children who have been using the facility over the holidays, the Librarian in Charge Rufus Kithinji said following sustained outreach programmes, the library had attracted a huge number of primary, secondary and college learners as well as civil servants, making the available space inadequate to accommodate the rising number of users.

Agnes Mukami, a teacher at Creation Academy and her colleague Angela Kimaiyo who teaches at Koticha Junior Secondary School in Kinna, Garbatula sub county noted that there was need to have larger halls since some learners have to wait outside for those inside to walk out so that they can have a chance to access the library.

They further called for establishment of more libraries at the sub-county level, at least one in Garbattula and another one at Merti, in order to enable those in other sub-counties to also have access to library services.

Regarding outdoor activities for children using the library, the teachers called for preparation of the available ground in order to enable the children carry out their activities with ease.
