JSC invites applications for position of chief registrar

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has invited eligible candidates to apply for the position of Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.

JSC, in a public notice on Monday, October 23, confirmed that the position currently held by Anne Amadi would fall vacant on January 13, 2024.

"The JSC invites applications from qualified persons for the position of Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, that will fall vacant on 13th January, 2024," the notice reads.

"The appointment shall be made in accordance with Article 161(2)(c) of the Constitution of Kenya as read with Section 9 of the Judicial Service Act, 2011."

To be considered for the position, JSC said, an applicant must be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya who has attained the qualifications of a High Court Judge; or attained at least 10 years' experience as a professionally qualified magistrate; or attained at least 10 years’ experience as a distinguished academic and legal practitioner or such experience in other relevant legal field.

The candidate must possess demonstrated competence in the performance of administrative duties for not less than three years.

The candidate should have a high moral character, integrity and impartiality.

In addition, the applicant must demonstrate a high degree of professional competence, communication skills, fairness, good temperament, making of good judgments in both legal and life experiences and commitment to public and community service.

Interested candidates have been asked to submit their applications not later than November 13 at 5:00 pm.

The successful candidate will be appointed for a five-year term, renewable subject to satisfactory performance.

The Chief Registrar of the Judiciary is the Chief Administrator and Accounting Officer of the Judiciary.

Amadi' stint at the Judiciary

Amadi assumed the role of Chief Registrar of the Judiciary in 2014.

She replaced Gladys Boss Shollei who was the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary until October 2013.

Amadi's career profile indicates that she joined the judicial service as a District Magistrate II (Prof.) in 1990 and rose through the ranks to become a Resident Magistrate before joining private legal practice as Sole proprietor at A. A. Amadi & Co. Advocates between 1997 and 2003.

Prior to her appointment as Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Amadi was working as a Consultant.
