Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today's happenings.

Amadi hands over 

Chief Justice Martha Koome is set to preside over the official handover by Chief Registrar Anne Amadi on Friday, January 12, 2024, marking the end of Amadi's decade-long service at the Judiciary.

The handover ceremony will take place at the Milimani Law Courts building, starting at 10:15 am.

Amadi concluded her role as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary on Friday, November 24, 2023, as she presented the State of the Judiciary and the Administration of Justice Annual Report (SOJAR) FY 2022/23 and launched the Social Transformation through Access to Justice (STAJ).

During her tenure, Amadi highlighted significant milestones in the progressive transformation of the Judiciary.

Before her role as Chief Registrar, Amadi practised law privately in Mombasa from 1997 to 2003 and served as a magistrate in the Kenyan Judiciary for six years from 1991 to 1997.

She was also the Deputy Executive Director and Head of Litigation at the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Kenya until May 2008, managing legal aid clinics and collaborating with organizations globally.

Amadi's career includes serving as the National Coordinator of the National Legal Aid and Awareness Programme, focusing on improving access to justice for the marginalized.

She possesses expertise in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and mediation and has extensive experience in strategic planning, research coordination, and human rights-based programming.

LSK protest

The Law Society of Kenya plans a peaceful protest on Friday, January 12, 2024, against recent remarks made by the Head of State regarding the Judiciary.

The demonstration will start at 9:00 am at the Supreme Court of Kenya and will follow a peaceful route along Parliament Road to the Office of the President.

Launch of Spark accelerator 

Safaricom will launch the Spark Accelerator program at the Micheal Joseph Centre, Safaricom House, starting at 7:00 am.

The program, aimed at supporting early-stage startups, will be attended by Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa, M-Pesa Africa CEO Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, and partners from Sumitomo Corporation.

The initiative will provide mentorship, funding, and go-to-market support to identified startups, fostering their growth and scalability.
