Kanu boss Baringo Senator Moi hosts consultative talks
Kanu chairman and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi yesterday held a five-hour consultative meeting with leaders from Rift Valley at his Kabarak home.
Moi has been on charm offensive in the last few days after his party signed an agreement with Jubilee party that saw Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen was dropped as the Senate Leader of Majority and replaced by West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio of Kanu.
Those at the meeting include Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos and Joshua Kuttuny (Cherangany), Silas Tiren (Moiben), William Kamket (Tiaty) and former East African Community minister Musa Sirma.
“The leaders also discussed the impact of Covid-19 to the residents and how to help the people overcome pandemic that is threatening the livelihoods, and measures to be undertaken to alleviate the suffering of victims of floods that has affected parts of Rift Valley,” they said a statement.
There is also talk that a Kanu MP touted to be Kamket could be appointed to replace National Assembly Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali, who is facing ouster following claims of divided loyalty.
During the purge, Majority Whip Susan Kihika was replaced by Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata, a move political pundit’s see as one aimed at isolating Ruto.
Moi has been engaged in supremacy battles for the control of the vote-rich Rift valley with the embattled Deputy President .
This week, Chama Cha Mashinani Isaac Ruto founder also announced that he will be forming a post- election pact with Jubilee party ahead of the 2022 elections.
Former vice-president Kalonzo Musyoka also last week announced plans of his party Wiper signing a post- election agreement with the ruling party Jubilee ahead of the 2022 elections.
Last Thursday, shared a five-point plan days after the party entered into a post-election coalition agreement with the ruling Jubilee Party.
The coalition agreement was deposited at the Registrar of Political Parties on May 4, but its details were only made public last Sunday.
A day later, a Kanu legislator, Samuel Poghisio, took over as Majority Leader in the Senate from Murkomen following a parliamentary group meeting at State House, Nairobi.
Gideon shared a statement as the party marked 60 years since it was founded on May 14.
