Azimio-One Kenya presidential running mate Martha Karua has warned the electorate against electing Deputy President William Ruto as president, saying he lacks emotional intelligence, temperament and integrity.

Reacting to yesterday’s media reports that Ruto almost slapped President Uhuru Kenyatta following the unprecedented judgment of the Supreme Court, Karua says DP Ruto continues to exhibit characteristics that confirm that he lacks respect for his office, colleagues and public institutions.

In an attack on the DP, Karua alleged that there are individuals who want to be elected president simply because they are angry.

“If you see them tell them that Wananchi are equally angry because they have no food on their tables. Being angry will not make you (Ruto) be elected as president,” Karua said, as she campaigned for Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga in Nairobi  county yesterday.

“I want to send a strong warning to those elected as deputy president, stop abusing the president, if you will ever be elected president, you also need to be respected, I am not telling you not to criticise anyone, do it in a respectful way,” she said, adding that the country cannot be ruled by individuals who lack respect for one another.

Karua further warned Kenyans that if a leader does not have respect for their office, if by any chance they ascend to a bigger office, they will degenerate the lack of respect for the office, colleagues, politicians and public institutions.

“Kenyans must be able to judge some of these leaders through their utterances and actions, as being a Christian is not by baptism only or by going to church frequently but by character,” she told congregants at African Divine Church Westlands.

“Those of us seeking political offices, let us be patient and stop threatening those occupying the offices you seek to ascend,” she held.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who is seeking the Nairobi senatorial seat, told Ruto to stop threatening the President through the media, that he will arrest him once he leaves office.

“Some people are telling us that because the President has refused to endorse him, he will jail him despite the fact that his mistakes are many compared to Uhuru,” Sifuna said.

He asked politicians to have a forgiving and caring heart
