Keroche heiress Tecra died of head injuries, autopsy shows
The late Tecra Wangari Muigai, the daughter to Keroche Breweries business owners, succumbed to injuries she sustained on the left side of her head, preliminary autopsy report has shown.
According to experts, led by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor, who conducted the autopsy at Nairobi’s Lee Funeral Home on Tuesday, the injuries are consistent with a fall down the stairs. The family was represented by lawyer James Orengo.
News of Tecra’s death broke on May 2, with the family saying she died in a “tragic accident”.
She is believed to have fallen on the stairs of a private house in which she was staying with her boyfriend Omar Lali, in Lamu.
The team is tomorrow expected to meet a team of doctors from the Nairobi Hospital that attended to Tecra before she died.
The joint team will, among other things, study the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans that were captured at the hospital.
A further toxicology tests— blood and urine samples— will be done to establish the presence of other substances in the body, including alcohol or any other drugs before the fatal fall.
But a source close to the investigations intimated to People Daily that detectives recovered two 750ml and one 350ml of Vodka bottles from the house she shared with Lali, in Lamu.
Detain suspect
Detectives from the Homicide Unit at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, who revisited the scene, said the deceased could have fallen from the nine-foot stairs that is inclined at an angle of 45 degrees.
On Monday, Lali was arraigned in Lamu Law Courts where the Principal Magistrate Allan Temba ordered him detained for 21 days to enable police to complete investigations.
The application was made by both the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the police.
“They are allowed to detain the suspect as long as they allow him access to legal advice from his advocates,” said the magistrate.
Already, detectives have analysed the CCTV footage and phone records and recorded statements from additional witnesses.
The case will be mentioned on May 26.
Tecra was the last-born daughter of Joseph Karanja, Keroche Breweries chairman and Tabitha Karanja, the firm’s CEO. She will be laid to rest this week in a private family ceremony.
