Kimani Ngujiri denies betraying Ruto, explains why he voted for BBI Bill
Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has dismissed reports indicating he betrayed Deputy President William Ruto after voting for the Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2020, on Thursday.
In a statement on his Facebook page, the MP says he could not fail to vote for the bill since it has a bag of goodies for the people of Nakuru County.
"Getting 5 more constituencies and more funds to the county government means we will have more development at the grassroot level," he said.
Adding; "I have always been on the frontline campaigning for one-man, one-shilling one-vote. My conscience, therefore, could not allow me to vote against more money to the grassroots."
Ngujiri states his choice for the bill was communicated to DP. He says him voting for the constitutional changes has nothing to do with his stand on 2022 succession politics.
"I communicated my decision to vote yes to the DP and he had no objection. We have come a long way with Dr William Ruto and we have a long way to go," he stated.
The move by the MP to vote for the BBI bill came as a shocker to many Kenyans who have known him for his bold criticism of the constitutional amendment process.
The MP is on record saying he will not support BBI unless DP is involved in the process.
A total of 235 MPs voted YES for the Bill , 83 voted NO and 2 abstained.
Other allies of Deputy President who voted for the bill include nominated MP David Sankok, Lungalunga MP Khatib Mwashetani, Owen Baya (Kilifi North), Alfah Miruka (Bomachoge Chache) and Feisal Bader (Msambweni).
