Kimunya in Building Bridges Initiative deal with women leaders
A section of women leaders from Mt Kenya region yesterday vowed to support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report which is set to be handed to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Chief Raila Odinga soon.
Led by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, the leaders who spoke after lunch with the newly appointed Majority Leader Amos Kimunya at a city hotel said the aim of their meeting was to deliberate on the BBI report and discuss with him how to move the women agenda forward in the august House.
“As women leaders from this region we saw it wise to meet Kimunya to celebrate with him as we share with him most of concerns.
BBI was one of the projects which we discussed as we wait to be directed by President Kenyatta on the way forward once he receives it,” she said.
Succession bill
The meeting comes amid reports that the final report would be presented to the two leaders as early as this week after Opposition Chief Raila returned to the country on Sunday night.
Also on the table yesterday was legislation affecting women with Kiambu Women Rep Gathoni Wa Muchomba saying they prevailed upon Kimunya to ensure they see the light of day on the floor of the house.
“We have spoken with him and we believe through his leadership some of the bills we have been pushing like the succession bill will be passed,” she said.
Kimunya promised to work with leaders to implement most of President Kenyatta projects as they also lay ground for the BBI.
“I listened to their concerns and I am happy to note that in the next few days we will hit the road running to meet what they have asked me to do,” he said.
Those at the meeting in Nairobi were Waiguru, Nyeri Deputy Governor Carol Karugu, Kiambu Deputy Governor Joyce Ngugi, Mary Wamaua (Maragwa), Wanjiku Kibe (Gatundu North) and Wamuchomba. No member affiliated to Tanga Tanga was present.
