Kitale reacts to Uhuru’s extension of curfew

A cloud of disappointments greeted Kitale residents after President Uhuru Kenyatta extended the curfew and lockdown on Saturday.
Church leaders and members of the private sector felt 'led down' by the President who announced further 30 days extension of curfew although with new time adjustments.
Feeling disappointed, business people, civil servants, and church leaders who spoke to People Daily in Kitale said they did not expect the curfew extension which they had anticipated to end for a smooth resumption of work and worship.
The Gate Keepers association of churches in Kiminini sub-county said they had made preparations for resumption of church services albeit with strict adherence to the Ministry of Health's guidelines.
Their chairperson Bishop Davies Majimbo said the curfew had negatively impacted the economy, saying although the church fully supported the Health Ministry, Kenyans needed to engage God in real prayers of repentance as directed in the book of 2 Chronicles 7:14.
He said the extension of the restrictions may not bear anticipated goals if citizens will not seek God for an end to the pandemic which has hit the country the same way the Egyptians were hit for disobeying God’s directive to let the children of Israel be free.
The clerics spoke in Sikhendu while donating food to elderly of the neighbouring villages of Sibembe, Weonia,Chalicha and Chepkorok.
"We should not be piling pressure upon the government alone to give food and non-food items to the vulnerable. The government has also been hit with the pandemic and we need to be in solidarity with the president and the whole government,’’ he said.
Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and industry Trans Nzoia county chairman Martin Waliaula said the extension of the partial lockdown in Nairobi will end if everyone heeded strictly to the health guide lines.
The Chairlady of Kitale Commercial Sex Workers Mary Auma urged the government to end criminalization on their business after the 30 days lapse.
