Kitale town traders decry losses following power outages

Monday, June 7th, 2021 22:13 | By

Residents and traders of Kitale Town in Trans Nzoia County have raised concerns over rampant power outages that have led to huge losses in the past two days.

The power blackout was caused by stringing works meant to improve the supply of power.

The interruption, which occurred on Sunday and Today Monday has greatly affected businesses operating in the town.

Traders who spoke to People Daily said they have particularly suffered due to lack of refrigeration services while those running salons, barbershops and cyber cafes were forced to shut down their premises.

The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Trans Nzoia County vice-chairman Pradip Shah said many businesses that have suffered should be compensated.

"Most of the businesses that rely on electricity have suffered and incurred heavy losses. Kenya power should compensate businesses ", he said.

He asked the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) to intervene and salvage businesses from further losses.

Efforts to reach Trans Nzoia County KPLC manager Martin Lumasia were futile after his phone went unanswered.
