The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has introduced a list of new guidelines as headteachers register candidates for the 2021 KCPE and KCSE examinations.

The registration exercise which begun on June 2 will end in July 31 so that the 2021 KCPE and KCSE exams can take place in March and November 2022 respectively.

In the new guidelines, headteachers are supposed to ensure that they register the names of their respective candidates in the order that their details appear on their birth certificates, the year of birth, gender, subjects entered and other information on different categories of special needs.

Also, any school with between 5-14 candidates will be required to be hosted by another examination center to be determined by the sub-county director of education.

The examination body will only allow one private examination center per a sub-county.

The government also said it intends to pay for all candidates from public and private schools except for candidates re-sitting their papers, non-citizens, private candidates who register in private exam centers and candidates in prison.

KNEC is racing against time to ensure the schooling calendar runs smoothly after disruption by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The examination body also said that examiners are setting the national exams with KNEC saying everything is in place to rectify the disruption in the exams calendar.
