The prominent Thika trader who went missing under mysterious circumstances after reportedly writing what appeared like a suicidal note has been found alive.

Julius Gitau Wanyoike alias Gitau wa Mali Mali who runs a wholesale shop behind the Thika main bus stage reappeared yesterday morning while seemingly distressed.

According to Murang’a County police commander Josephat Kinyua, the man claims to have been set free by his abductors on Sunday morning.

He reported to Ndururumo Police Station which is near the point where he was apparently kidnapped. Kinyua however said police suspect foul play in this case pointing out that the man could have planned for all this.

“In our own investigation, the man could have been running away from some people whom he owed money,” he said.

“We shall however do more investigation and get to the root of it” he added. The police boss said the officers from DCI are holding him for further interrogation, which shall help us in knowing the truth.

“We need to know how and where he was living for all this time and what he was doing,” said Kinyua.

“The police have in possession his mobile phone and they shall track down all the conversations he made” he added.

Kinyua said the man claimed he was kidnapped by unknown people who took him to unidentified place. His friends and family have been at a loss regarding his whereabouts, months since he disappeared and after efforts to trace him bore no fruit.

The businessman popularly known as ‘Gitau wa Mali Mali’ had driven himself in one of his distribution trucks before abandoning the vehicle near the Blue Post flyover.

He is reported to have called his driver on phone and told him to go for the vehicle. However, the missing businessman had also left inside the vehicle a disturbing handwritten message on a piece of paper.
