Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has assured fishermen and businessmen of security from the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Speaking during President William Ruto's development tour in Homabay county, the second-in-command made the surety saying that government authorities ought to build a conducive operating environment for fishermen and not to frustrate them.

"President William Ruto's administration does not frustrate or destroy businesses, it protects and builds enabling environments for businessmen. Even fishermen should operate without any hindrance. If any agency frustrates you, you can call me. I am the person who shields businessmen from any form of frustration," he said.

The Deputy President's sentiments were echoed by Homabay County Governor Gladys Wanga who implored the President to call the Coast Guard to order.

Wanga claimed that the Coast Guard has deviated from its mandate of protecting fishermen in Lake Victoria to frustrating them.
