Mombasa opens condolence book in honour of former President Moi

Coast Regional Headquarters (Uhuru na Kazi) in Mombasa has opened a condolence book to enable residents pay tribute to retired President Daniel arap Moi who died on Tuesday February 4, 2020 at the Nairobi Hospital. 

Coast Regional Commissioner (RC) John Elungata encouraged Mombasa residents and those from other counties to find time and sign the book as a sign of respect to the former President. 

“As a sign of appreciation to the good leadership and sacrifice Mzee Moi made to our country, I encourage all civil servants and residents to come forward and pay their respect,” said Elungata who led senior government officials in signing of the book on Thursday. 

 Among those who accompanied Elungata was the Mombasa County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo. 

A similar book was opened at the Eastern Region headquarters in Embu in remembrance of the late former president Daniel Arap Moi.

While launching the book, Isaiah Nakoru termed the late president Moi as a pillar of unity in the country through his philosophy of peace love and unity.

“Through philosophy of peace love and unity, the late former President Moi steered the nation into peaceful coexistence and has left a rich legacy that need to be emulated,” noted Nakoru.

The RC noted that the demise of the former President was a shock to many for he touched many lives during his tenure.

Civil servants have been asked to stick to code of regulations and serve the government of the day with total commitment in order to safeguard the public’s confidence and respect of public service.

Addressing civil servants during the launching of condolence book in respect of former President Daniel Arap Moi, Isiolo County Commissioner Mr. Harman Shambi said that civil servants should ensure they delivered quality services to the tax payers in the country.

He said Mr. Moi had contributed a lot in terms of development for this country in various fields and is credited for the smooth hand over of power to the opposition after his Kenya African National Union (KANU) political party failed to win election in 2002
