MP Gachagua dismisses Kuria, Kiunjuri and Karua’s call for Mt Kenya party, maintains UDA party will address region’s need
Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed calls by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri and Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua on the need to have Mt Kenya region party that will be used to bargain for power.
According to Gachagua, those with such motives are fronting their selfish interest at the expense of needy people who are thirsty for the revival of economy and implementation of development projects.
“Everybody is free to form his own party. What we don’t want is people to form parties and claim they are pursuing the interests of their region because those are personal interests. All those leaders are trying to have political parties to come and bargain for positions,” he said.
Gachagua said UDA party leaders from the region will continue to pursue interests of common citizens and not what positions the Mt Kenya region will be given.
He stated that the region does not need a Deputy President slot or any other government post to have development projects implemented adding that the people of Mt Kenya region have still suffered when key government leaders hail from the region.
“What we are saying as leaders from this region who are in UDA, we don’t want to bargain positions and we don’t think positions are solutions to our problems. We don’t think if we bargain for a lesser position, it can change our fortunes,” the MP stated.
Gachagua noted that he, together with other like-minded UDA party leaders from the Mt Kenya region, are keen on reviving the economy for its people to gain wealth.
He said their issues of discussion with DP Ruto is not about positions but on revamping the economy.
“We have persuaded the way to change economic fortunes of our people is through an economic revival. We are willing to negotiate with Deputy President William Ruto for a marshal plan to revive our economy, and on programs that he will put in place to restore dignity, wealth and enterprises of our people,” he said.
His sentiment comes in the back of calls by Kuria and Kiunjuri to have a unity of purpose for the Mt Kenya region ahead of the forthcoming polls.
Kuria and Kiunjuri have maintained that they will not fold their parties to join UDA.
The two leaders have appealed to the Mt Kenya region to unite ahead of 2022 or risk being sidelined by the government.
