National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has said he did not attend Amani National Congress (ANC) National Delegates Conference (NDC) on Sunday because Deputy President William Ruto had been invited to attend it without his knowledge.

"I did not attend ANC NDC as we were surprised that WSR (William Samoei Ruto) would attend and MM (Musalia Mudavadi) did not have the courtesy to inform us, making us very suspicious of what they would declare," he wrote on Twitter.

Muturi, 65, said his thoughts were not further from the truth.

"Correctly, we have seen the formation of another coalition with WSR, which we have never discussed at any time," Muturi added.

Muturi, who is the party leader of the Democratic Party, has since announced that he will vie for the presidency on the August 9 general election.

He has been leaning towards One Kenya Alliance (OKA).

In May 2021, Muturi was crowned as Spokesman of Mount Kenya region.

The ceremony was held at the Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga holy shrine in Murang’a county and was attended by elders from Meru, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Muranga and Nyeri.
