Ndingi to be buried at a private service tomorrow
The late Catholic Archbishop Ndingi Mwana a’ Nzeki will be buried tomorrow at a private service that will comprise few members of the clergy and faithful, the church said yesterday.
According to the Kisumu Diocese Archbishop Phillip Anyolo the service, to be held at Holy Family Minor Basilica, will start at 10am to be followed by interment thereafter at the same venue.
Anyolo who spoke yesterday during a Special Palm Sunday Mass, which was televised by major media houses, said the decision to have a private service was in line with the government’s directive to restrict congestion of people to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
“The late Archbishop will be given a befitting send-off which will only be attended by few members of the church and from the clergy,” said Anyolo.
According to Anyolo, who is the Chairman of Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), the service may have less than 100 people, as it will include family members from Machakos, KCCB and few members from the dioceses of Nakuru, Machakos and Nairobi.Top government officials are also expected to attend the service.
However, Kenyans will have a chance to follow the proceeding of the mass as it is set to broadcast live by some media houses.
While reading the condolence from the KCCB, Anyolo eulogised Ndingi as a firm leader who believed in what he taught saying he has left a great that will be remembered by generations to come.
“As KCCB we have lost our dear and highly respected brother. A committed shepherd who tirelessly and truly led down his life for his flock and the entire nation,” said Anyolo.
The firebrand church leader passed on last week aged 88 years at Mater Hospital.
He will be remembered for being on the frontline in the struggle for re-introduction of multi-party democracy in Kenya.
